Every night for the last couple weeks, I've sat down on the couch and said to myself that I need to come on here and start posting again. But every night, I don't. Funny thing is, it's not that I have been lazy over the past couple weeks--well, I haven't be lazy about things other than posting, I should say.
Fitness is back on track. I've been eating "sensibly" for a little over two weeks now (down half a stone so far! Yeah, I'll keep jumping), and I've even been hitting the gym again. I did four days last week (running on the treadmill at lunch) and wow was my body sore for it. But it was a good sore. I also started a new fitness activity this week that I will keep quiet about for now. I am going for my second session of that tomorrow, and so far it looks really promising. It's far and away the most athletic thing I've ever attempted to do, but I am excited about it--and wanting to perform well at it is keeping me well motivated eating-wise.
Writing is also going well, if in a bit of a down cycle. I have one partial out to an agent right now (fingers crossed!), and a list of new agents I am ready to query. I am sort of dragging my feet on sending out the first round of queries. I was hoping for a quick response from this agent first before sending out more. Better to get that first "no" out of the way, so I can just be neat and tidy about this, right? Yeah, I am pretending to be all pessimistic, but that damn little optimist in me keeps thinking that a positive response is coming soon. It looks like nothing is coming quickly with this one though (as is to be expected, really) so I should get moving on those other queries soon.
Reading has been a non-started all year. I have one book under my belt (and about half the review written), but until the review is officially posted, I am not counting it. I should start on that soon (I think I am dragging my feet mainly because I was a little disappointed in the book). I have at least 20 books sitting upstairs on my to-be-read shelf and it seems TV has officially started its summer vacation, so I have no excuse. I should get going on that again this week.
Even music saw a bit of movement in my posting-absence. Erin and I learned a Hannah Montana song for her birthday party last month, and even performed it live on stage! It's a far cry the Tool and Metallica covers I was trying to get going when I first picked up a guitar, but it'll work. It was a simple song, but Erin and I worked pretty hard on it, and it was kind of cool to see her getting so into it. Plus it was the first time I've played on a stage since college. That's got to count for something, right?
Anyway, I've updated my list of goals, and I am starting to focus on my next steps in all of them. One thing I guess I should mention here is that I've put a hold on any more submissions of Atimus (my first novel). Honestly, I just don't feel comfortable sending it out anymore. It's had its round (rounds?), but now it's time to get behind my new book. So that goal will go unmet this year but with a good reason.
All right, back to it. I hope to post a lot more frequently on here (every day was the original target). This entry feels like a major info dump, so sorry about that. I guess that's what I get for going three productive weeks without an update!
